First Contact Physiotherapist FCP

About Us

The First Contact Practitioner (FCP) role in Primary Care provides early access to care for patients with musculoskeletal problems. FCPs can assess the patient's condition, request diagnostic tests (e.g. bloods, X-rays or MRI scans) and provide appropriate intervention - advice, self care exercise, health education, lifestyle modifications, medication or referral to other healthcare professionals where necessary. The FCP musculoskeletal service helps to improve patient health outcomes, free up GP appointments, reduce waiting times for specialist appointments and reduce the burden on primary care and emergency departments. FCPs in this service work closely with GPs and other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive appropriate care and treatment without the long wait, as early diagnosis and treatment can prevent complications and improve outcomes for people presenting with musculoskeletal conditions.
